A U.S. Navy sailor from Virginia has emerged as recipient of the most substantial online lottery prize ever awarded in the United States, The Lottery Post reported, receiving a staggering $1,817,588.
Byron Bundoc won big playing the online instant game "Jackpot Spectacular", offered in Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Bundoc was returning from a volunteer event on Aug. 10 when he decided to unwind by playing a game on the Virginia Lottery's app on his phone.
Not too long into playing, he received a notification he'd won an instant prize of $1,817,588. The Lottery confirmed it's the highest amount ever won in an online instant game in the U.S.
"It was surreal," Bundoc said. "I called my brother and said, 'You're not going to believe this!"
According to the Virginia Lottery, Jackpot Spectacular is just one of the many instant win games available on their app and website. Bundoc had been monitoring the increasing jackpot attached to that game.
Bundoc informed the lottery officials that he currently has no specific plans for his prize money.
The odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.99, according to officials. Odds of winning the jackpot “vary by price point.”
